for better iron purpose... means that heavy iron would require less external pressure for ironing of clothes.....

hello dear the physicall reason can be........by making the base heavier ,the clohes will get easily ironed...

one more reason , heavy base means higher heat capacity, means if the press remains off for some time (this usually happens) , the temperature does not change much.

Electric iron is made up of NIC(Nickel+Iron+Chromium).Thus,the base offers high resistance,does not get oxidised at high temperature(1000 degree Celsius)...
