A number of BHU students awarded degrees

Black gowns and black caps were visible everywhere on the Banaras Hindu University campus on the eve of 93rd convocation function on Friday. Today, degree and award distribution for under-graduate (UG), post-graduate (PG) and PhD courses was held at various faculties.

While a number of venues, including Swatantrata Bhawan, and hosts of buildings of various faculties including arts, social science, science, management studies, law, performing arts, visual arts and Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan (SVDV), apart from the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAS), witnessed distribution of awards and degrees to students, finishing touches were also provided to the 'pandal' on Amphitheatre Ground that would hold the main programme of the convocation function on Saturday.

Director, IAS, BHU RP Singh distributed degrees and awards to a total of 292 students, including 88 UG, 180 PG and 24 PhD students. As per reports of various faculties, a total of 7,076 students, including 4,207 at UG level, 2,505 at PG level and 364 PhD level, were given degrees on Friday.

The prestigious BHU medals would be awarded to 26 students at the main convocation function. Vice-president M Hamid Ansari would deliver the convocation address and BHU chancellor Karan Singh and UP governor BL Joshi would also attend the convocation.

Meanwhile, a review meeting of the district police was also held to take stock of the security arrangements for the main convocation function on Friday.
