INTRODUCTION:
The University of Calcutta was brought into existence even before the Act received the formal assent of the Governor General. The first meeting of the Senate was held on 3rd January, 1857.
The University Act, Act No. II of 1857 was passed by the Legislative Council and received the Governor-General's assent on 24th January 1857.

Admission to MCA course:
Admission to MCA is open to:

Who are Indian citizens and
Who have either passed or are appearing in the Bachelor's degree final examination in any discipline from any recognized university. They are eligible to appear for a Written Test conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board.


Note: Candidates who have appeared at the qualifying (Bachelor's level) examination but are awaiting their results may also apply and appear at the interview. If selected, such candidates will be admitted provisionally. They shall have to submit valid proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the required percentage of marks within three months of commencement of First Year First Semester classes, failing which their provisional admission will be cancelled.

JECA (Joint Entrance Exam for Computers Application) is a written entrance test conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board.

Eligibility criteria for JECA:

Candidates who have cleared their Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks in Mathematics at (10+2) level on B.Sc. Major in Computer Application offered by C.U. with 50% marks in mathematics at (10+2) level B.E. / B.Tech in any discipline except Computer Science. Computer Science and Engg. Computer Science and Technology, Information Technology from a recognized University. are eligible to apply for the course.
Candidates with statistics or mathematics in their bachelor's degree are free to apply.
Candidates appearing in their final year examination (bachelor's degree) can also seek for admission.
There is no age limit for the candidates.

Exam Pattern:
Question Paper will have two parts
Part - I: Aptitude Test (100 marks):
All questions will be MCQ type and to be answered in OMR Answer Sheet.
Time: One hour.

Syllabus:
Syllabus of Aptitude test for JECA consists of:

Reasoning
Problem Solving
Quantitative Comparison
Discrete Quantitative Analysis
Data Interpretation.

Part-II: Mathematics (100 marks)
Short Question (not of multiple choice type) to be worked out in details within the space provided in the Question-cum-Answer Booklet.
Time: One and a half hour.

Syllabus of Mathematics for JECA:
1. Analytical Geometry : Cartesian and polar coordinate; Straight line; Circle; Ellipse; Parabola; Hyperbola; Translation & Rotation of axes.

2. Algebra : Complex number, De Moiver's theorem, Solution of linear equations, Determinants, Matrices, Summation of single series, Addition of vectors, Scalar and Vector products, Inequation, Sets and elements, Universal set, Empty set, Subsets, Venn diagram, Union and intersection of sets, Complements, Algebra of sets, Finite sets, Class of sets, Partitions, Cross product, Group, Ring and Field.

3. Calculus: Limit, Continuity, Differentiation; Maxima & minima; Taylor & Maclaruin's Series; Definite and indefinite integrals; First and second order differential equation; Functions of several variables; Partial differentiation.

4. Probability & Statistics : Permutation, Combination; Probability; Probability distributions; Mean; Median; Mode; Standard Deviation; Correlation co-efficient.
