Karunya Institute of Technology was awarded the deemed university status in recognition of its academic excellence by the Human Resources Development, Government of India and therefore it was renamed as Karunya University under the UGC act.

The university also offers MCA degree for which the minimum requirement of percentage as criteria of eligibility is 60% marks excluding languages in any discipline with mathematics or statistics for two semesters in graduation.
