Suppose I make the assertion: "x is a function of y." What does thisstatement mean, what are its implications? 1. The variable y is to be considered the independent variable.2. The variable x is to be considered the dependent variable.3. The acceptable values of the variable y vary over a set of numbersthat is referred to as the domain of the function.4. The values of the function are symbolically represented by theletter x. The values of the function come from the range of thefunction.5. There is some rule of association { a rule that associates witheach value of y in the domain of the function, a correspondingvalue of x in t

Early historyThe first units of length were based on the human body, the most obvious example being the foot. Other body-based units are the cubit, which is the length of the arm from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger (roughly 18 to 22 inches), and the span, which is the distance between the tip of the thumb and little finger when the fingers are extended. The hand is still used to measure the height of a horse. Needless to say, these units can vary widely from person to person, and an example of allowing for this variance can be seen in the 12th century Scottish definition for the inch, which was taken to be the thumb width from three men - one big, one med

Case 4To draw the graph of form y = | f(x) | (graph 4) Draw the graph of y = f(x) (in yellow) then restore that part of the curve, which is above x-axis. Take the reflection of the part of the curve which is below x-axis (in yellow) wrt to x-axis. Then erase the part which is below x-axis... The restored part along with the reflection will be the required curve (in red dotted) Case 5To draw the graph of form y = f(|x|) (graph 5) Draw the graph of y = f(x) (in yellow) and then erase the part which is to the left of y-axis. Take the reflection to the part of the curve lying to the right of y-axis assuming y-axis as mirror. The part of the curve, which i

Cool Fraction ProblemA friend of mine sent this to me today, see what you think of it:The decimal representation of 10/81 is cool:0.123456790 123456790 123456790 123456790 and so on forever. But the missing 8 is a bit of a flaw. The easiest way to remedy this is to subtract1/10^9,(10/81) - 1/1000000000 = 9999999919/ 81000000000 =0.123456789 123456790 123456790 123456790 and so on forever. But this too is less than perfectly cool since the first 9 is not followed by a 0or a 10. Show that one can turn 10/81 into a very cool number by subtracting(m/n)/10^9 from it so that the result looks like0.1 2 3 4 5 6

IITChalo StrategyWhy good strategy? It helps you to transfrom your hard work into proper results It increases your efficiency. It keeps you out of trouble,"just before the exams". It helps you in making correct decisions. If you know these points then it will improve your performance If there is no negative marking then you should first try to do as many problems as you can ,use wise guesses ,wherever possible .For blind guesses fix a particular option e.g.you can choose (b) as your choice ,but then mark (b) for all of your blind guesses (those good in probability might have understood the reason for that). In P
